Statement
The very idea of Abstract Expressionism allows Katerina Fiore to
channel her interpretive view of the world through her paintings.
After formal training in the Fine Arts at the Munson-Williams-Proctor
Institute; where she had her first group show in 1988, Katerina
embarked on a journey in the theatrical arts by studying in the field
of set design which enabled her to combine her love of painting and
sculpting into something bigger. With 11 years behind her as a
designer in theatre, opera, ballet, film, and television she never
lost sense of her real creative direction. She continued to paint
along the way and with the encouragement of her husband, Bill,
acquired her own studio at Mad Arts last year.
Since then, she has exhibited in six previous group shows at the Mad
Arts Gallery. Her necessary plunge back into the art world has
allowed her to merge her experience in theatre and the fine arts by
painting and weaving the more significant and personal events in her
life onto canvas. Her work evolves from life experiences and dreams
incorporating shape, color, and movement. Each painting is a chapter
in her life magnified 100 times, creating her own sense of
abstraction. Like poetry and storytelling, painting allows her to
make sense of the world she lives in and her part in it.
