Katerina’s style of work, Abstract Expressionism, has always allowed her to channel her interpretive view of the world around her.
Her formal training began in the Fine Arts, with concentrations in painting, sculpture and photography. From there she shifted into the theatrical arts by expanding her studies into the field of set design, further exploring her interests of painting and sculpting on a much larger scale. During her 11 years as a set designer in theatre, opera, ballet, film, and television she continued to pursue painting.
Katerina has been with Mad Arts since its inception and has exhibited in many of the group shows at the Mad Arts Gallery since then. She’s also participated in a group exhibition titled Narratives at BWAC in Red Hook, Brooklyn.
Her paintings merge her experience in theatre and the fine arts with significant events in her life. They evolve from life experiences and dreams that incorporate shape, color, and movement. Each piece represents a chapter in her life magnified many times, expressing her own sense of abstraction. In her photography, she likes to invoke a painterly, dream like quality, at times acquired through digital manipulation.. Like poetry and storytelling, her art is a reflection of the life she lives and the way she sees the world around her.
